The Face Shop Oil Control Water Cushion Foundation

I am not new to the Cushion Foundation thing which has been popping out like mushrooms from  more and more brands recently. The first one that I tried was that from Laneige and I loved it so much I was able to finish it in no time. But I think I still have the refill somewhere Hahaha!  Oh my, what to do.  So many foundations to finish up, so little time.

And now I have here another cushion foundation to review for today:

The Face Shop Oil Control Water Cushion Foundation
The Face Shop Oil Control Water Cushion
(AED 120)

I got this from the August box of Glambox and have been itching to try it since. But I still have a lot of foundations to try and finish up so I sort of kept this one on hold. Then one day I was in a hurry and had not much time to go thru all my entire skincare ritual, I decided to give this a try.  It promises  hydration, courtesy of the ingredient called Clean Tasmanian Water and the Italian Pure Mineral Water so I figured, maybe I can skip my moisturiser.  Also, it has SPF 50 so yeah, skipped my sunblock as well. And since this product swears by its ability to control sebum, thanks to the Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract and Blooming Rose Powders, I decided to my trusty primer too. Believe me, it breaks my heart whenever I don't get to complete my skincare ritual be it in the morning or at night. But that day, I only have 30 minutes to spare so I need to move my butt fast!

The result? I loved it!  If only I have the right shade, it could have been perfect. But anyway, let me tell you more about this baby.

The Face Shop Oil Control Water Cushion Foundation
It comes in a lightweight, study compact with a mirror and an air-puff sponge which is perfect for this kind of foundation.

The sponge and the foundation itself is separated by this flip-top layer which holds the sponge. So no need to worry about the germs that can get accumulated on the sponge to creep over your foundation, eww!

Apricot Beige

One swatch and I knew, this is way too light on me.

I've read that there are only two shades available. I might get the other one but I am thinking that one's dark on me but since I have the lighter shade then maybe I can mix?  Let's see.

The cushion in action:

bare faced
(No moisturizer, no sunblock, no makeup primer)

After a layer of the water cushion:

yep, definitely too light on me

First impressions:  easy application using the sponge, it sets to a beautiful matte finish that you no longer have to set it with powder and it blends onto the skin..like it doesn't just sit on top of your skin.

And here's me after putting on the rest of my makeup:

I had to use a darker shade of powder to adjust the lightness of the foundation and used some bronzer to warm up the entire look.

What I Like:

♥ Easy to apply.  No need to use a separate brush, the sponge that came with the compact is a great tool to use already.

♥ Blends seamlessly on the skin.  If not only for the wrong shade match, this baby could look invisible on my skin.

♥ Doesn't feel sticky on the skin

♥ No need to use a primer because aside from it dries to a matte finish, I didn't have to blot AT ALL for 8 hours.  Amazeballs!   There's a bit of shine on the tip of my nose though but I think it's because of my highlighter.  This baby stayed on my oil-slick face the entire day...didn't melt, didn't rub-off and didn't transfer. ALLELUIAH! Do take note that I am staying in an AC'd room, though I walked and waited for a taxi outside with an almost 40C temperature before arriving in the office.

♥ It has high SPF which is a must if you live in this side of the world!

♥ Evens out the skin tone and minimizes redness.  But if you have a lot of "dark secrets" you might want to use a separate concealer. In my case, I did 2 layers then patted a bit more product on areas I need to conceal. It didn't conceal them completely, but I didn't mind.

♥  Cheap. It sells for AED 120 which includes another refill.

♥ Compact is lightweight and non-breakable. A yay for me! (wink)

♥ I didn't experience any breakouts or allergic reactions

What I Don't Like:

• Very limited shade availability

• You'll need to use a separate concealer if you have dark pigmentations

•  Not flash photography-friendly, no thanks for its high SPF.

I've read that this is also waterproof. I haven't tried it though but I will do soon! Hmm, I just realized that since this is so good in controlling oil, then maybe I can just use it as a base for my other foundations?  Dum-dum-dum-dum..must try soon too!

How about you, any new foundations you've tried lately?  I still have a lot of stuff to try and review for you so please stay tuned.

Im an avid fan of Oil Blotting Sheets since I have really oily skin. My personal choice is Chambuu blotting sheets since it's organic and it doesn't have any fragrance (I have rhinitis so I am avoiding tissues that has perfume in it).

You can purchase it here: http://amzn.to/1Rg1Kjt and use this code: WYMBLF6S for discounts. Discount code is working (I just tried it yesterday).
