Product Review: J&C Super Clean Solutions Brush Cleaner

When I decided to pursue my love for makeup, and that was when I enrolled in makeup school,  my concern back then was what are the good makeup brands out there.  I read reviews or asked makeup artists who have been in the business for a long time.  Well, there was a time (there still is) when I went thru trial and error just to try out the product/s myself and find out whether it's good or not.

After investing on makeup, I then realized the importance of having a good set of brushes.  Gone are the days when I would think that tools don't matter.  They really do. And back in those days, the good brushes that I know (and most people do recommend), don't come cheap. Good thing there's Charm brushes nowadays! (wink)   And so, apart from making sure that my makeup would stay bacteria-free, I also have to make sure that my brushes would not only stay bacteria-free, but also in tip top shape!

And so, the hunt for a good makeup brush cleaner began!

I've tried a lot of makeup brush cleaners, but my favorite is still the J and J Baby Milk Wash! I love how it gently cleans my brushes, and of course, the delicate milky scent.    But I don't always have access to water to clean my brushes most especially when I'm out in gigs.  And besides, I don't have all the time to wait for my brushes to dry when my next clients is already sitting on my makeup chair waiting for me to start working on her.  I can't just say, "Sorry dear, my brushes are still wet...wait lang ha!?" (laughs)  Of course, I have a few extra brushes, but what if it's one of those days when my brain failed me and just forgot to bring them all?  Patay na!  So it's just great to know that there are brush cleaners that can help you spot clean your precious brushes. I've tried a number of brands already, but it certainly won't hurt to explore new products.  Besides, it's always good to have options...tama!?
^_^

So here's my newest companion during my makeup gigs that certainly doesn't fall short of my expectations whenever I need my brushes to get cleaned...fast!

J&C Super Clean Solutions Makeup Brush Cleaner

It's a no-brainer makeup brush cleaner that cleans your brushes without the need to rinse with water.  It's quick-drying too!  And geesh, with its spearmint scent, I am absolutely addicted to it!  The first time I've used it, I wanted to use it as a gargle na!  (laughs)  To some, the scent might come too strong, but for me, it's absolutely LOVE!

It comes in a sturdy, plastic bottle so careless people like me won't have to worry.  It has an easy-to-use spray pump (I've tried some which can be a pain to use and I hate it!) that dispenses the right amount of product..so no wastage too!

ingredients

It does have alcohol but my brushes remain soft after.  I've used some that left the brush hairs so stiff that I had to wash my poor babies again with my milk wash.  But with this cleaner, brushes are ready to rock in no time!

It does get rid of cream-based makeup, but it does take a bit longer to do so.  We all know how cream-based stuff can be such a pain to get rid of.  So what I do is I wipe the brush with wet wipes then use this cleaner after.

spot-cleaned my Charm brushes!

The (beauty and) brains behind this product are the superwomen of ARC PR, Jenny Yrasuegi and Celine Gabriel-Lim.  With their busy schedules, they are always on the lookout for stuff that will not only deliver good results, but will also work in a snap!  This makeup brush cleaner is just the beginning, as they will be coming up with more products soon.

For Php395 per 120ml bottle, I think this has got to be the cheapest brush cleaner I've tried that works.

Sweet Pea & Fay's Liquid Lipsticks...

Are you into lipsticks? Me, not really.  But if there's one lipstick that I think I can't live without, that would be MAC Peachstock! Even my girl friends can attest to it.  I love it to bits that it's the only lipstick I get to finish and have been re-purchasing.  But this year, I told myself that I'll be more adventurous when it comes to lip colors, and that I would try to wear more brights.   I've been trying out the lipsticks I just bought for my clients' use and surprisingly, I am beginning to appreciate other colors aside from my beloved Peachstock!
^_^

So when I learned that Digitaltraincase finally has the Sweet Pea & Fay's liquid lipsticks, I made sure that I pay their store a visit (which is by the way in the same building where I live) to get the first dibs on their new stuff.

Sweet Pea & Fay Liquid Lipsticks

I've posted some swatches on my Instagram account and got requests to post them here on my blog.  I am always running late in the morning for work, so I never got the chance to take pictures of them under natural light.  So please bear with me as I took these pictures at night..and yes, I'm still dumb when it comes to camera settings!

I know some of the swatches on my lips don't really give justice to how pigmented these babies are...so better check out the swatches at the back of my hand instead.

Take note that I've only used a teeny-weeny amount, and applied one layer.  As you can see most of them are really opaque like the Willa, Penelope, Musidora, Nantes, Paper Cut and Jail Bird even with just one layer.  They are creamy, somehow feels matte but they are silky and smooth to apply.

I like the doe-foot tube packaging, but I find it hard to get the product out of the tube. Probably because it's too creamy?  It can be applied straight from the tube, and just use a finger to smoothen it out but my best bet would still be using a lip brush.

They are pigmented and they stay fairly long on the lips.  Probably a good 2-3hrs.  Penelope leaves a bit of a stain which still looks okay at the end of the day.  The product tends to settle into the lines of the lips so make sure to moisturize first.

My favorites are Willa, Penelope, Imogen and Paper Cuts.  I checked online and saw Ukulele...gotta check with Digitaltraincase if they have this shade as well. They are priced at Php390, which I think is a good price to something you can use for months since you only need a little amount each time.

So what do you think? Are these babies something you'd like to try?  Visit Digitaltraincase at the ground floor of Corinthian Executive Regency in Ortigas and check them out.  Do watch out for more items they'll be offering soon...I am getting excited myself!
^_^

Have a happy, stress-free Thursday!

Something New: Nivea UV Whitening Serum

I have always been a fan of Nivea body lotions.  And being a sucker for anything whitening (okay, don't hate me for that!) I particularly love their whitening lotions.  Aside from they really work, I love that they don't feel heavy on the skin.  And the scent's not overpowering.

So when I heard that Nivea came up with this UV Whitening Serum, I really got excited.  Well, I always get excited whenever there are new products coming out, more so if they are from a brand that I really love.

NIVEA UV WHITENING SERUM
The answer to lighter, fairer skin, once and for all

NIVEA, helming the world’s best line-up of whitening products, introduces the NIVEA UV Whitening Serum, the Philippines’ first and only intensive whitening and repair serum for the body.

This is NIVEA’s first foray in introducing serum to the Philippine market, in its pursuit to provide more long-lasting whitening products that do not only stop at whitening, but persist to create a healthier, more vibrant skin tone that lasts. The NIVEA UV Whitening Serum contains real Vitamin C, nature extracts, UV filters and Hydra IQ that ensure whiter, healthier, more even-toned and moisturized skin within just 14 days, with results that visibly last.

Below are 11 benefits found in just one product:

1.     Advanced UVA and UVB cell protection with SPF25 and PA++
2.     Nourishes sun damaged skin
3.     Enriched with Licorice for fairer skin tone
4.     Enhances and supports the skin renewal process
5.     Infused with Hydra IQ and Red Seaweed
6.     Enriched with natural Vitamin C from Camu Camu
7.     Enriched with 95% anti-oxidant pure Vitamin C derivative
8.     Light and non-sticky texture
9.     Gives more radiant and fairer skin tone all over the body
10.  Gives smooth and even skin tone all over the body
11.  Skin compatibility is dermatologically approved

I've started using it last month when I saw it at Watsons.  What makes it different from the brand's other whitening products is that, it's a serum.  So what if it's a serum?  Well, serums work faster as they get absorbed by the skin better.  I've started using it last month when I saw it at Watsons and have been using it everyday.  It didn't only help me lighten (I got tanned after my one-week stay in Bora) but I noticed that my skin became radiant...and glowing.  I don't get to sleep much but my skin doesn't look dull and dry.

This new Nivea UV Whitening Serum is available in all Watsons branches and priced at Php219.00 for a 200ml tube.

To know more about this product and other Nivea products, visit www.Nivea.ph or like Nivea in Facebook.

NOTD: Gold + Plums

Woohoo, it's Friday!  Though I won't have one (hello, weekend work!) I wish everybody to have a great one. And would you believe we're more than halfway done with January?  How time flies, no?  Soon, it'll be Christmas again! (laughs).  Okay,  I guess I went too advanced.
^_^

Anyways, here's a quick post of my nails.  It's been a while since the last time I posted one, and hopefully, I'd be able to do more.

Orly Glitz (gold) + Nyx Prune Juice (plum)

I know they look messy, I was having a hard time sleeping the other night so I got up around 3 am and did this.  I became sleepy just right about after applying the base coat...but decided to finish it anyway.  So there...nail art by a sleepy me!

Tata!

Bobbi Brown Black Pearl Eye Palette...

One brand that I always look forward to whenever they come up with palettes would be Bobbi Brown.  I already have three: Bobbi-to-go, Pretty-in-a-box and the Beauty Rules. And then just before the holidays, our dear friends from Bobbi Brown gave me one of the palettes from their holiday collection...the Black Pearl eye palette.

Ready for wrapping - our Black Pearl eye palette was made for party-luxe eyes.  Six velvety-rich shades were handpicked to help you create dramatic smokey looks with mesmerizing shimmer (depending on how they're applied).  Includes a mini-dual ended shadow/liner brush for precise application wherever you go.
Php3200

Like my other Bobbi Brown palettes, this one's also handy.  It comes in a black, glossy plastic packaging with a collegiate-type looking logo. If you're an OC (like me, at times!), I'm sure you'd hate that you can see your fingerprints all over it. I remember wrapping a tissue paper around it once.  LoL!  What I love best about the packaging is that it comes with a big, clear mirror.  Yeah, I am vain like that!
^_^

and lookie, it comes with a small dual-ended brush too! I prefer regular-sized brushes though.

Top (L-R):
White - pure, matte white. It's smooth but not that pigmented and can be a bit chalky.   It's better to layer on and it fades when blended too much.  I like using it under my brow bones to highlight.

Tin - pale, metallic gray.  Looks light on the pan but pigmentation is good.

Black Velvet - shimmery, deep purple base with pink and silver glitter.  Better to use a creamy base to avoid lots of fall out.  Not as pigmented as it looks on the pan, but once you layer it on, it gives out a beautiful, unique color.

Bottom (L-R):
Oyster Grey - pale, shimmery gray. Looks sheer on the pan but it's really well pigmented and can be worn alone as a pretty lid wash.  I

Grey Denim - deep, matte neutral grey.  Pretty pigmentation, great to be used in defining your crease.

Black Pearl - matte, true black - a great black shade that's pigmented, easy to apply and blend.

White, Tin, Black Velvet
Oyster Grey, Grey Denim, Black Pearl

and here's a look I came up with:

Revlon Photoready Correcting Primer
Fairydrops Candy Bar BB cream
Kate Mineral foundation powder
Shiseido Camellia compact blush
Sleek face contour kit in Medium

K-Palette Lasting Eyebrow
In2it brow powder
Bobbi Brown Black Pearl Palette: Oyster Grey + Tin (lid), Grey Denim (outer-V, crease, lower lash line) and Black Pearl (outer-V, lower lash line)
K-Palette Lasting Eyeliner micro
Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lengthening mascara

MAC l/s in Peachstock
Majolica Majorca lip gloss

With this palette, you can definitely come up with a number of looks that can be worn either day or night. Take note that I didn't use any primer underneath and it pretty much stayed the whole day.  There's a teeny-weeny bit of creasing, but it still looked okay.  For those with really oily lids, better to use a primer first.

Again, you can use shades #2 and #4 as gorgeous lid washes, or use them with shade #5 for definition if you don't want to go too dark...or shade #6 if you want it to be more dramatic. Use #3 on top of the other shades to give your lids that unique, sparkly look and of course, shade #1 to give your eyes a pop by using them as highlighter on the inner corners of your eyes and/or under your brow bones. And yeah, the Black Pearl eyeshadow can double up as an eyeliner too!

This palette is part of Bobbi Brown's 2012 Holiday collection, so grab this one if you're into smokey eye looks.  This is limited edition so better hurry up!
