Product Review: Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner...

For me, the next best thing one can learn when it comes to makeup (after drawing your brows, of course!) is lining the eyes. Lining the eyes give your eyes a whole new look. I wish I've known this technique a long time ago. Come to think of it, I do know about it..but I just don't know how to do it! (laughs)  It took me years to really master the art of lining the eyes. I've tried different styles, but my favourite has got to be the winged liner.  It makes one look sexy, sassy and nasty? (WUT!? LoL)

I've been asked a lot of times how I do it. I remember making a video tutorial years ago on how I line my eyes, but 'twas not the kind of lining that I do now.  I wish I can make an updated video tutorial for you (obviously, I can't), but for now let me tell you how you can line your eyes so easy you won't need years of practice.

Say hello to your new best friend when it comes to lining your eyes, the Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner:

I got this sample from Glambox's May box. And I've been reaching out for it most of the time. I try not to actually, because I love using it so much I'm scared I'd run out of it before it becomes officially available in stores.

Among all the types of eyeliners I've tried, I am partial to gel liners because they are easy to use (can be tricky at first) and they usually deliver the most amazing pigmentation.  This new liner from Benefit promises to give us both: the ease of application plus a great pigmentation that's long lasting and would stay put until you decide to take it off.

Makeup Look: Neutrals...

And so I am back with my (boring) make up looks!  But hopefully, you'd bear with me because I so missed putting on makeup after months of just staying at home. Honestly, I think my so-called makeup skills have gone rusty. And I need to practice more. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd be back to doing makeup on other people soon so I only have myself to practice on.

I'm glad that most women in the office where I work wear makeup, so I'm not really the odd (wo)man out. (laughs)  And I don't think they would get shocked should I decide to wear my "Happy Friday" (now called Happy Thursday) look everyday either. So hopefully, I'd be back to wearing colourful makeup looks soon.  And maybe, just maybe, have time to do tutorials again.  Yes?

For a start, how about some neutrals?  (What! Neutrals again!??) I know right. Hahaha! But that's just to get the ball rolling.  Hopefully.

It's almost 2 months since I started working again.  Can you believe that? It feels like it was just yesterday when I was on my way to my first day on my new job.  I am still getting the hang of things and is usually too pooped to do something else after  a day's work. But I get to learn a lot of things and my officemates have been so helpful with everything.

I am the only Pinay in the team, and I can say it was challenging at first because though I'm used to working with people from other cultures before, at least there are fellow Pinoys in the group.  I still need to be more assertive, less shy (yes, I can be shy!) and well, bleed less when I start to run out of english. (laughs) The guys in the group were so serious and uptight at first, but now they are starting to crack up. They try to teach me Arabic and Indian words, and I teach them (gay) tagalog words in return!
^_^

Have a happy Tuesday, my loves and keep on flashing those pearly whites!
Stay happy!

MAC Waterproof Brow Collection...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if there's a makeup item I can't live without, it would be brow makeup.  Without my made up brows, I look like an alien. Seriously!

My brows have "evolved" through the years. A lot of people have been complimenting me for my made up brows but I didn't perfect them overnight.  It took me years of practice. But now, I can say that I can draw them even with my eyes closed!  Haha, kidding!  If you want to see how I draw my brows, here's a tutorial I did last year.

One thing I look for in brow makeup is its ability to stay put all day.  I remember the days when I just wanted to drop dead whenever I'd see half of my brows gone! Que horror!  I've tried a lot of products which claim to be waterproof but only a few can actually hold on to my oily brows. Yeah,  my brow area is oily as well!

If you're brow-obsessed like me, you might want to check out the MAC Waterproof Brow Collection.  I know this has been out for some time in other countries,  but here in UAE, they started being available just this week.  And I'm pretty sure you my dear readers here in UAE are already used to these late releases.

MAC Waterproof Brow Collection 2014

A new collection of products elevates the brow inwaterproof formulas that are sweat-proof, smudge-free and humidity-resistant. and golden brown. Finish the look with Zoom Waterfast Lash, Splashproof Lash or False Lashes Waterproof and your brows are gorgeous to go.

Taking a Break from Beauty-Related Posts….Emo Muna!

If there's one occasion I am least excited about, it would be Father's Day.  Simply because instead of greeting my dad, I'd be greeting my Mom and my Mama instead. And because, makiki-tatay na naman ako.

For those who don't know it yet, I grew up without a dad. Mom said he died even before I was born. But honestly, I still sometimes think she's lying! Haha. Love you, Mom!

I had a step-dad when I was in high school but he died of heart attack when my sis was only 6 months old.   So me and my sister are both daddy-less since birth. Well, in her case, almost!  But at least she still has pictures to remember him by. Me? Nadah.  Mom said she was just too young that time and didn't care about keeping photos and whatnots. So all these years, I don't still have an idea of what my dad looked like. I only know so little about him, some kwentos from my titas and titos. They even say I sort of look like him,  But aside from that, he really is a stranger to me.

Now, if you ask me…is it hard to grow up without a dad?  Hmm, not really. Because, there are people in my life who portrayed the role of a father.  First, there was my Lolo. I was the first grandchild you know, and I was the paboritong apo.  He was really strict but I was one spoiled grandchild.   I still remember him carrying me on his back whenever there's this flood in our street.  And mind you, that was despite me being in  in full rain gear: raincoat, boots and umbrella. But still, he just won't allow his favourite grandchild to set foot (technically, my boots) in the flood.   I was spoiled, yes. But I was taught at a very young age how to do house chores. He said that a girl must know house chores and there should be no excuses.  Geesh, writing this makes me miss my Lolo.  But please Tatay (what I call my Lolo), don't visit me ha..or else, I'd die. (laughs)

Aside from my Lolo, there are also my Titos.  I get to see them often since Mom and her siblings are all in the same province. Actually, they are just a tricycle ride away. Oh, except for my Tito who used to live somewhere South.  Then there's also Dad, my Mom's bf.  They have been together for what, 14 years? He has been a father to me and my sister for years.  I call him Dad and despite not being blood-related, he has been a great dad for me and my sister. Let's also not forget my father-in-law! Me and X went steady way back in high school and I've known his family since then. There are certain things I've done in the past that I am not proud of, but like a good father, Daddy Roling accepted me and openly welcomed me as part of their family.

Of course, there's also my Mom.  She has been both a mother and a father to me and my sister.  She went thru a lot and sacrificed a lot. We all know it's not easy to be a single mom but she did it, fabulously! (laughs)  I'm sure you've seen her in photos, she looks so damn young for her age, right!?

And last but not the least, my Mama Wheng.  She took care of me since I was born and until now, I still feel guilty taking away her childhood because instead of playing, she had to take care of me.  Until now, she takes care of all of us.  She got my Lolo's amazing cooking skills and I always looking forward to her cooking.  Whenever I'm home, I'll be like "Diet? What diet!?" (laughs)

So yes, there are a lot of people in my life who have been playing the role of a father.  But to be honest, I still feel sad whenever I'd think of my father.  And it can be hard, because, I don't even know how he looked like. I feel like a part of me has this huge question mark.  Corny or emo as it may sounds, but I do feel that way at times.  It's like, I don't know the whole of me.  Saan ba talaga ako galing? Sino ba talaga tatay ko? (Geesh, emo talaga)  Tao ba ako?  Ugh. Okay, this should stop. (laughs)

Anyway, I've learned to be thankful despite the not so good things. Besides, I've been blessed with people who love me. And for that, I should stop thinking that I am lacking something and be thankful instead.

So kahit makiki-tatay na naman ako I am greeting all the Fathers out there and to all Moms that play both role a Happy Father's Day! (belated nga lang, pero bumati naman na ako sa IG at FB at Twitter kahapon..promise!)

And that means, in a matter of hours, it's the start of the weekend in this part of the world.  I've been back to work for more than a month now and honestly, I still get surprised when my colleagues would bid me a happy weekend on a Thursday and sometimes, I'd still say "See you on Monday!" in return. (laughs)

MAC Cosmetics X Maleficent Makeup Collection now available here in UAE!

Have you seen Maleficent?  I did!  And I love it! I can watch it over and over again.  I promise I'll buy the DVD once it comes out.

I know there are people who have been saying the movie's shallow.  But how can (true) love be shallow?  She was betrayed, almost died from it, became bitter and vengeful for sometime, but in the end her heart softens for the child of the same person who betrayed her.     The scenes where she pretends not to care for the child (whom she calls Beastie, LOL!) are just so heartwarming. And ugh, the "true love's kiss" scene is just so surprising!  I initially thought it would be the kiss from Diaval (the bird) that will wake up Aurora.  (laughs) But nah! Okay, I am giving way too much…see the movie, and you'll know what I mean.

In celebration of the movie, MAC Cosmetics came up with the 17-piece Maleficent makeup collection:

MAC Maleficent Makeup Collection

Usually, UAE is sooo behind when it comes to product launches so imagine my surprise (and excitement) when I got a heads up that this collection is now available.

Get Beautiful, Blush White Skin in an instant with SkinWhite...

I’m a sucker for anything whitening. Now, don’t start judging me okay? I know we should all be satisfied with what we’ve been blessed with, and that we shouldn’t be doing anything to change them but, what if we feel a lot better when we know we look good? Is that a crime? I don’t think so. And I’m pretty sure you think so too!
You see, I wasn’t blessed with a fair-white skin. I used to be morena, and my love for outdoors during my younger years made me look like I’m adopted when I stand next to my mom and my younger sister. I wasn’t too conscious back then. All I know is that I enjoy being out in the sun. But people change. As I grew older, I became more conscious with how I look. And so when somehow my love for outdoors lessened, and my skin gradually lightened, people began to tell me that my new skin color suits me more. And that’s when I started to take care of my skin even more. Hello SPF. Hello whitening lotions. Hello to a whiter me.
Now, one of my concerns is that because of way too much sun, I’ll go back to my old skin color in no time. It’s not that I hate my old self, but hey, I would have to do a lot of adjustments all over again when that happens! Like buying darker shades of foundations for one. Too shallow!? Well, maybe I am, but this is me now and I’ve been like this for years, so why allow that to happen when you can do something.

I’ve used a lot of whitening lotions in the past but now I am re-discovering an old love that has been reformulated to give skin an instant whitening effect on the first application. Yes, you’ve read that right...on the first application!
SkinWhite PowerWhitening Lotion

Now what makes it different with its previous formulations? It has the breakthrough Tri-Power Technology that has the following benefits:

1. Gives skin an instant whitening effect upon application, thanks to its whitening actives and opacifying agents

2. Significantly whitens skin in as fast as 7 days.
3. Reveals whitest white with continued use.

The consistency is thick, but texture is really creamy. It easily applies evenly on the skin, with no greasy after-feel even if you go under the sun. I also love the slight powdery scent that leaves you feeling and smelling fresh all day.

Now, this baby does not stop with its whitening effects on the skin. It also has Vitanourish Formula that contains Vitamins B3, B5 and E to help nourish and moisturize the skin as it whitens. It also has SPF20 further protect our skin from harmful UV rays. And yes, it’s dermatologically tested. I’ve used the classic variant in the past and it really helped whiten my skin without any allergic reactions.
Top: Before application
Bottom: After application
After each application, skin looks brighter, more supple and healthier. It’s definitely an instant pick-me-upper for the skin. And unlike other lotions that also promise the instant whitening effect, this doesn’t leave your skin with an unnatural-looking mask that can sometimes look grayish. Instead, it gives you that beautiful, blush white skin.
SkinWhite PowerWhitening Lotion is available in 3 different sizes:
50ml – Php 71.00

100ml – Php 123.25

200ml – Php 235.00
It’s a lot more affordable than the other brands I’ve tried and the best part is, it’s made by Splash Corporation, the biggest Filipino-owned personal care company in the Philippines. Tangkilikin ang sariling atin, yeah!
If you love to bring stuff that gives you that much needed quick fix at times you feel less pretty, or just about any time you feel like you need to primp up, then this definitely deserves a space in your kikay kit. I have this in its biggest size and I always make sure it’s in my bag whenever I go out! Haha! I’ve loved this product before and I love it even more now. And maybe this time, there’s no more letting go.
