TimHoWan: Home of the Best Pork Buns

Image
Oh yay, it's the weekend! Any plans? As for me, we'll be attending a kiddie party this afternoon and then I'd probably ask the hubby to bring me to the movies or to a nice dinner.  If you ask me, I prefer to stay at home and chill-ax after a crazy week in the office but I also know that I need a bit of social life.  So fine, mingle with the outside world I will! ^_^ When I got back from PH, my friends here in the UAE told me that I've been killing them with envy because I've been posting a lot of food photos when I was still in Manila. I honestly didn't take notice that I've indeed posted a whole lot of food porn. To me, it's nothing extraordinary. I need to eat, I want to eat...and so I eat A LOT. Hahaha!  And so today, I wanted to share with you probably one of the best food experience I had when I was in Manila.  It was so good that we ate there twice. It was with... TIMHOWAN! I first read about TIMHOWAN years ago when me and my...

Our (Late) Lunch Experience at Lugang Cafe

Image
I've been seeing Lugang Cafe for quite some time when I was still based in PH but never really gotten the chance to try it.  I admit I am not a big fan of Chinese cuisine except when my occasional craving for authentic dimsums strikes, and so thinking that Lugang Cafe is just like any other Chinese restaurant, I don't really pay attention to it whenever I go looking for some place to eat.  Last Monday, after mine and my Mama Wheng's follow-up checkups with our respective doctors, my family and I went to SM The Block to look for a place to have our (late) lunch. It was already past 2 that time and this restaurant was the first that I saw upon entering the mall. My tummy's already growling so I took it as a sign that I don't have much time left before I would start nibbling on somebody.  Hahaha!  Seriously, I wasn't really expecting a lot when we entered the restaurant. I just knew I need to eat, stat! And boy, I'm glad we did give this place a chance to ...

How To Cook Pork Binagoongan (with Eggplant)

Image
Happy Sunday, my loves!   Linggo na at hindi pa din ako nakakaligo, har har har.  TMI, I know. Don't worry, I sponge bath twice a day and I don't have BO to begin with, so keribels ! Hehehe! Pero honestly, I miss taking a bath, the normal way!  But as per my doctor, dehins pa pede. I'll be seeing him on Thursday for my checkup and hopefully, he'll give me a go-signal after.   Kaya I really wish that my wound heals fast. For that, I drink a lot of pineapple juice and I don't move as much. I also didn't insist on getting those waterproof plasters that I can wrap my wound with just to be able to take a bath since he said there are some cases na nagkakamoist yung wound.  I try (hard) to be as obedient as possible.   Tiis-tiis na muna.  And since it's still a weekend in this part of the world (oh yes, I am still in Pinas!) I'll be posting a recipe of one of my favorite dishes. Well, it became a favorite just recently.  It all started wh...

Baguio Eats: Ketchup Community

Image
It's the weekend once again and I've been missing my family so much these past few weeks.  I look forward to spending time with them again soon. If things turn out well, I'd be seeing them again sometime in July. And I just can't wait.  Looking back, I feel bad for those times I opted to stay in Manila during the weekends instead of heading back home in Bataan to be with them.  I wish I didn't let weariness (from work) get the best of me during those times. So my advise for you my friends, spend time with your family whenever you can and whenever you have the chance.  Okay, enough with the mala-telenovela drama.  For today let me share with you our dining experience at Ketchup Food Community during our short stay in Baguio early this year.  If you want to enjoy a variety of cuisines in one spot, the Ketchup Food Community near Wright Park is the best place to go. It is a small gated, small community with 5 restaurants ...

Getting Our Japanese Fix At Sushi Central

Image
When you get an invite to check out a restaurant that serves one of your favourite cuisine, you say "Yes!"  So when I was invited to check out Sushi Central's second branch here in Abu Dhabi (Mina branch), I just couldn't say no. Next to Pinoy cuisine, I love Japanese food.  I haven't been to the restaurant's older branch, but they say this one is bigger. I have actually been to their Mina branch when they opened last December and the place is indeed  roomy. They have art pieces as decors which makes the place even more modern-looking. I told the husband that I want the same seats in our house and he just gave out a smirk. Do you think it's a Yes or a No? ^_^ Want to feast on sushi while watching your favorite tv show? No worries! This small corner is right just for that.

How to Cook: Beef Caldereta

Image
It's almost midnight and here I am thinking about food. Usually, I'd be dreaming about burger and fries from Mcdo, but tonight I'm actually craving for something home-cooked.  I realized it's been weeks, or maybe months, since the last time I cooked. Nakakamiss din pala magluto.  When you cook, you get to eat what you want and make it taste like how you want it.  One ulam I definitely miss cooking is Beef Caldereta.  I know it's not in any way as good as my Lolo's and my Tita's recipes but for me (and hopefully for Mr. X), it's good.  Hayaan 'nyo na akong magbuhat ng sariling bangko. Hehehe!  There are a lot of Beef Caldereta recipes available but let me just share with you how I cook mine.   Ingredients: Garlic Onions Beef, cut into serving portions. I really don't know much about beef cuts but I usually get the part where there's a bit of fat. Potatoes Carrots Bell Pepper Liver Spread Tomato Sauce Let'...

Dining at Sakura Japanese Restaurant

Image
Whenever me and my family goes to Subic, the trip won't be complete without having a meal at Sakura. I can say that Japanese cuisine is one of my faves, next to Filipino, of course.  So when Mr. X and I went home to the Philippines last December, Mom made sure I'll have my fill of Japanese food from Sakura. while waiting for our food Look at my face, can you see that I am so kilig? Not because I'm seated next to hubby, but because in just a few minutes, I'd be stuffing myself with food. Hahaha! My I-forgot-the-name Ramen I was feeling a bit under the weather that time and at the same time craving for a good, hot ramen so I ordered this.  It's so flavorful and has the right spicy-ness.  If you don't know yet, I like spicy food. I have some Bikolana blood in me, that's probably why. California Maki Seriously, what's a mean in a Japanese rest without having California Maki? Tuna Sashimi Between this an...

Grand Opening of Zayzafoon Restaurant and Lounge at Bawabat Al Sharq Mall….

Image
One fact about me: I love to eat .  And that I can also be adventurous when it comes to food. I love trying out new cuisines and no matter how weird a dish might look like, I'd still try it. What the heck, life is too short not to come out of your comfort zone when it comes to food.  So weeks ago, when I got an invite to try out Arabian cuisine at the grand opening of the Zayzafoon Restaurant and Lounge at Bawabat Al Sharq Mall in Baniyas, I didn't think twice of saying yes.  I did have an idea that the place is an hour bus ride from Abu Dhabi (thanks to Google) but that didn't stop me from going. Now, unlike me, my husband's not a fan of Arabic Cuisine (he is missing a lot, I know!) so I asked a good friend of mine to join me. Good thing she's up for it so after office, we took the bus and off we went to Baniyas. It was a long ride indeed, but it was all worth it.  We were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and then immediately ushered ...

Our Crab Fest Experience at Chimes...

Image
I love seafood. Good thing I am not allergic to it like some people or else, I'd be miserable. Oh alright, I'm exaggerating.  But really, I just can't imagine my life without my favourite sweet chilli or steamed crabs and shrimps!  I know that some people don't really like seafood because it can be messy to eat them, but I don't mind at all.  C'mon, what's not fun with eating with your hands?   ^_^ So when I got an invite to check out Chimes' Crab Festival, the seafood lover in me just couldn't say No.   Chimes is a small restaurant located in Barsha (Dubai) which offers an extensive menu of specialties from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.  The interiors are  simple and they have an open kitchen so you can see their chefs working on their magic while you wait for your food.  They only have 5-6 tables in the restaurant and I heard the place can be jam-packed during weekends so make sure to make a reserv...

Why I will never eat again at Mugg and Bean...

Image
A few weeks ago, after having my hair done at Hairworks  Abu Dhabi, me and my officemate decided to grab ourselves a late dinner.    We saw Mugg and Bean on the same floor where Hairworks is and after telling me how good their food is I can't actually wait for my salon session to be over. LoL! After the salon, we went directly to Mugg and Bean.  We asked the server what time they close and she said 10pm. It was around 9:40pm that time and so I asked her if it's okay. She said "Yes" so we got ourselves seated and checked their menu.   I find their plates a bit small for a restaurant which serves comfort food but what the heck, I don't mind really as long as the food is really good.  I can always refill my plate anyways, right!? ^_^

How To Cook: Pork Kinamatisan...

Image
I know it's been a while since I last posted my cooking here but if you're following me on IG and FB, you'll see that I still cook (a lot!) during weekends.  I usually cook 4-5 dishes because I have to make sure that the husband has something decent to eat even when I'm away.  If not, he'll resort to canned tuna everyday.  Ah men, they can be really lazy no? ^_^ Anyway, here's a dish that I got from Girltalk. Apparently this dish is famous with my fellow girltalkers. And after trying it for ourselves, I know why. This is called Pork Kinamatisan.  It's kinda similar to Pork Sinigang, but this one's a lot easier to prepare. The ingredients are:  Tomatoes For this, I used 6 big tomatoes. More tomatoes, much better! 1 Kg Pork Ribs I opted for ribs because the bones help to make the dish tastier.  If you want, you can also use pork belly. 5 large Green Chilis, chopped.  It's the same chilis you use in S...

Our Dining Experience at Mo's Dubai...

Image
What do you do when you're tired, feeling restless or stressed?  Before, I go on shopping.  But since that makes me end up being broke or buy stuff which I don't really need, I try not to do that anymore.  I still go on retail therapy at times, but lately, I just indulge myself with good food.  And when I say good food, I mean comfort food! When I was still in Manila, I usually go to Friday's or Chili's.  So when I was given a chance to try Mo's Dubai (thanks, Caramel Group!), known for its wide selection of what we call comfort food, I just had to say Yes.  Besides, it's also a chance to connect with some other bloggers in the region. I rarely go out on a weekend, but I just felt that I need to amp up on my  so-called social life which is by the way already dying. Hahaha! I was told that Mo's is a casual dining restaurant but I can tell it has a fancier vibe to it as soon as I entered the place.  But I never felt intimidated as I wou...

Dinner Date at Samurai Restaurant, Abu Dhabi...

Image
Ask me what's my favourite cuisine and I would say "Japanese" without thinking twice.   So when I took the hubby out for dinner last week, I already know what we're going to have. Actually, I just knew we both want a good japanese dinner…but I didn't know where to go.   I got a couple of suggestions from my officemates.  They suggested Sushi Central and Samurai.  But when I told them I'm also craving for Ramen, they told me to go for Samurai as their menu is more extensive than that of Sushi Central's. And so we did... Samurai Restaurant Behind Al Diar Capital Hotel Meena Street, Tourist Club Area Abu Dhabi Usually, it's a pain to look for parking any where in Abu Dhabi. But maybe we were just too lucky that time as we were able to find one just across the restaurant. Yes, that's a  kabayan greeting us as soon as we entered the restaurant! ^_^ I'm not sure but I can't remember hearing them say Ira...
